What BonsaiSim is

A bonsai simulator that actually grows. You start with a Japanese maple seedling. You prune it, wire it, pinch it and repot it — and then time passes, and the tree answers. Not with an animation of a tree getting bigger: with the tree that your decisions produced.

The tree is simulated, not drawn

Most growing games play back a sequence someone authored. This one runs a model of a tree, one day at a time. Every branch you see got there because light reached it and the tree could afford it. Cut the leader and the tree redistributes. Leave a branch in shade and it weakens. Wire a bend and the wood remembers it, and eventually the wire bites in if you forget to take it off.

That is the whole point, and it is also the constraint: the tree is allowed to answer in ways nobody scripted, including ways you did not want.

What you can do to it

It is a real species

The tree is Acer palmatum, the Japanese maple, and the simulator is held to the real one: leaf size, internode length, how it back-buds, when the colour turns, what happens when a cut heals. Where the simulator and the species disagree, the simulator is the one that is wrong. That is not a slogan — it is how changes to it get decided.

Where it runs

In your browser. There is no account, no password, and no server of ours: your tree is kept on your own device, and we never see it. It is free to play.
